The Paschal Mysteries
During the whole process of drawing and completing the Most Holy Trinity and Seven Sacrament pictures Our dear Lord was indeed unlocking my heart and filling me with so much love I felt like my heart would explode, and I felt him truly Resurrected in my heart! “…Your brother will rise…Jesus told her, I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die… did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?” (Jn 11: 35-36) Easter Glory!

I wanted to draw a picture of the crucifixion for Lent. As I was working on it I was wondering how the picture could portray the fact that Jesus was born, suffered, and died for every person on the earth. The inspiration came to cut the picture and put a mirror behind the picture, and whoever looked at it would see themselves in Jesus. It didn’t matter if they believed in Him or not, He still came and died for each and every soul. I had finished the drawing part and was going to cut the paper where the wounds would be, so they would look like flaps of skin. As I was about to do this, something in me was afraid I would make a mistake when cutting the paper. This fear overtook me, I couldn’t cut the paper to make Jesus’ wounds. I put the drawing in the closet. There it sat. One month. Two months. Three months. Soon five months had passed and I kept thinking I should finish this picture, but I still couldn’t cut it. Then 9/11 happened. I remember that evening going to the chapel to pray. I felt like Jesus was crucified for each person that died, thousands of times. I felt great sadness. The next day I took the picture out of the closet. Jesus was crucified again and again, bleeding for each soul. I finished the picture in 19 days, working on it intensely, about 7-10 hours a day until it was done. The inspiration was that whoever looked at this picture would feel the love of Jesus, and know that He would have died for each one of them , even if they were the only person on the earth.

Brothers and sisters: Indeed the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart. No creature is concealed from him, but everything is naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must render an account.” (Hebrews 4:12-13) Whose eyes? God’s Eyes? But we may ask ourselves, who is God? What is the word of God? Who is the word of God? Is Jesus God’s Son,? Begotten? Not Made? The second person in the Blessed Trinity? The Incarnation? Jesus said He is the Way, The Truth, and The Life. Do we believe Him? Who and What is truth? Who do we say Jesus is? For what reason was Jesus born? For what reason are we born?

The Holy Trinity & Mary
The Father’s plan for the salvation of the world…how the Father chose Mary to be the Mother of Jesus…whose wounds redeemed the world! Mother and child have inseparable hearts…and Mary pondered in her heart all that Simeon had told her at the Presentation.

The gift from God, the Father, of Jesus his Son to the world. Jesus is the Lamb of God, who died on the cross for love of us as we see Jesus’ heart beating in the Eucharist on fire with love for us, going out for the whole world, “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son”. Jesus is the bread of life, the light of the world, the giver of life- giving waters of Baptism. Holy is His name. Mary is here also kneeling in front of the altar, inviting us to come to the table, to the banquet of eternal life, where Jesus will feed our souls and is the King of our hearts! We are touched by The Holy Spirit, by love, by light, by Jesus The Way, The Truth, and The Life!

What happens to us when we are touched by the Holy Spirit? In this picture The Holy Spirit comes down from heaven and issues forth from the love of The Father and The Son at the time of consecration, the epiclesis! We become a new creation! We are born again of water and the spirit! Our nourishment and lifeblood (drawn as an umbilical cord) is from above, from this Epiclesis, from the now consecrated host, the Most Holy Eucharist! From Jesus’ Eucharistic heart! The Holy Spirit goes out to the entire world, drawing us out of the darkness and renewing the face of the earth, purifying the whole world “I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Lk 12:49 We cling to the cross, our Eucharistic nourishment from above – “The love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.” (Rom 5:5); at the same time we are at the foot of the cross, like Mother Mary. It is at the foot of the cross that Mary becomes our mother, and from whose womb Jesus would be born and we are born anew through water and The Holy Spirit and we become God’s adopted children and the mystical body of Christ! “See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are…Beloved we are God’s children now…”(1Jn3:1-2) and “You formed my inmost being: You knit me in my mother’s womb…when I was being made in secret, fashioned as in the depths of the earth…” (Ps 139:13-16)

The Seven Sacraments
Jesus’ life is pressed out for us from the grapes and wheat that are the fruits of the earth and our labor. But why did Jesus do this? For love of us He died on the Cross. His heart aflame with love for us. Christ’s heart and the priest’s are united as there is only one High Priest offering the sacrifice. A pure and Holy sacrifice. A perpetual institution. We come to the altar table with ourselves bare so Christ can fill us and bring us out of the darkness. We bare our souls to him, we bring our burdens to him and lay them on the altar. We persist not in our unbelief but believe it is Christ truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. The color green of the vestment that the Priest is wearing symbolizes the life and nourishment that the Eucharist feeds our souls with. “In this great sacrament you feed your people and strengthen them in holiness, so that the family of mankind may come to walk in the light of one faith, in one communion of love. We come then to this wonderful sacrament to be fed at your table and grow into the likeness of the Risen Christ. Earth unites with heaven to sing the new song of creation as we adore and praise you forever” (Missal).

For God so loved the world. The Father’s heart, pure and radiant, invisible but ever present, beating with love for us. We are baptized in his name, and in the Son, Jesus, and in the Holy Spirit, represented by the dove. Who is called to Baptism? The old, rich, the baby, the mother figure, the child, the farmers and laborers, workers of the earth, the wise and learned, and not least of all, the person bound by sin, by the past, by abuse or neglect. By those infirmed and by anything where they fill bound. This person, as seen drawn in the grey cloth feels the farthest away from God. God is calling back to himself the sinner and broken hearted. Our Guardian Angels are sent from heaven to help and guide us to Jesus. We stand in the water to be purified, to be touched by Jesus, to be cleansed from sin, to answer his call to become part of his family, his children, to be part of a new covenant, God’s covenant with us! “in Baptism we have been cleansed from sin, and become God’s children – by adoption. We are buried with Christ in the death of Baptism and we rise also with him to new birth by water and the Holy Spirit” (Missal) “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” (Lk 3:16)
